Growing Problem: Heroin in Minnesota

Heroin is taking hold of MN. Reason why- not enough Meth. In science class this is referred to as the "Conservation of Junkies," whereby addiction can't be created or destroyed- it just changes from one form to another.

Law enforcement sources say heroin is a growing problem throughout Minnesota, in part because the state has been so effective in fighting methamphetamine. ...

Brian, I like your 'conservation of junkies' theory. However, there may be something unique about Minnesota rather than a univeral law of nature. I believe it has somthing to do with all the white food up there -- you know, potatoes, cauliflower, mashed potatoes, milk, white chocolate, skim milk, white bread. Try eating that through your teenage years and you'll be desparagte to find somthing to put a little color your visions.

Hi Tom,

I have to say off the top, it's pretty poor blog form to reply to every one of your commenters' comments- it makes you look a little desperate. However, when you have only two comments total on the entire blog (that's a post to comment ratio of 3.7%), a certain pragmatism is called for.

Now on the the heart of the matter- you take a fairly serious swing at Minnesota in your comment. In fact, you offer a theory that the very state itself and its admittedly crummy-ass food choices drives people to drugs.

I think you're absolutely correct, and I also have to invoke the ol' Prince-as-root-cause-of-drug-abuse argument. If I lived in a state that he was from, I might get myself a habit as well.
